Mentorship
For those of you out there that want to refine and strengthen your teaching skills, I offer mentorships based on my extensive training and experience. If you have just finished a teacher training, you may be ready to jump into teaching — or maybe you want to strengthen your confidence or bolster your teaching skills first.
If you are currently teaching, you may wish to continue to clarify your skills as a instructor. Regardless of your experience, you want to gain the confidence to teach fearlessly, yet you may not have the time or skills under your belt yet to feel confident doing so.
As teachers of yoga, we are first and foremost students. The greatest gift you can give to yourself and your students is to step back into the seat of a student again and again — absorbing new knowledge, revisiting the fundamentals, and learning through experience each time.
Wherever you are, my 1:1 mentorships are meant to help you integrate depth and breadth in the way you teach. You’ll learn how to sequence poses in functional and creative ways; how to teach modifications and offer alternative poses; and how to grow your versatility in teaching students of all levels, from total beginners to seasoned practitioners.
Teaching a truly all-levels class is challenging and requires both adaptability and versatility. All-levels classes are the norm at most studios, and by truly cultivating the skills needed to cater to all levels, you’ll be a step above most teachers out there. Upāya refers to the concept of learning and refining your skills to reach a specific audience with your unique, authentic teaching style. In other words, my goal is help you amplify your power and the benefit you bring to your students.
A mentorship will look different depending on what you’re looking to gain from working with me, but some things you may wish to refine with me are included below.
Direct active voicing / reflective voicing and when to use the proper cues in the proper context.
Theming: how to prepare a solid theme and weave it into the physical practice.
Refined cueing and alignment: how to simplify your cueing and give your students the why.
Sequencing: simple to complex, and how to prevent injury in the classroom.
Hands-on adjustments that deepen and/or align the postures so students get the fullest expression of asana.
